- If you would like to use your file from last class go to FILE and select OPEN.
- You may use up to 4 AUDIO channels. Drag your selected sound into one of the Audio Channels on the left.
- Helpful Hint #1
You can rename your Channel by double clicking the name (Audio Channel 1) and changing it to what you want. - Helpful Hint #2
You can change the color of each sound by right clicking (two fingers on the touch pad) and select a color. - Helpful Hint#3
- The number to the right of your sound choice indicates BPM (Beats Per Minute) The greater the number,
the faster the tempo (speed)
- Helpful Hint #1
- Use sounds from the SAME folder and/or the SAME tempo in order for your piece to maintain a steady beat.
- You will have more flexibility on a later assignment.
Understanding the D.A.W. (Digital Audio Work Station)
Each audio channel is a separate track of streaming audio. In Soundation, the Audio Channels are grey and are used for the loops or sound clips from the Library. Each audio channel contains the following:
Effects - Allows the addition of an effect. By pressing the + sign it will generate a list of effects to choose from.
S - Solo - Only the channel selected with the S is played back. If multiple channels have the S pressed, they will be heard.
M - Mutes the channel for playback
Volume slider - Adjusts the volume for the track. This is a temporary fix to hear while creating. The Final mix will be more precise.
Pan knob - assigns the track to left, right or both speakers/headphones. Leave this in the center.
Automation Menu (icon to the right of the Effects drop down) - This menu will allow you to automate the volume or panning processes.

Understanding the Editing features - cutting, stretching and pitching.
Cursor tool - can alter the length by dragging the bottom left to make it shorter than what was provided or top right to make it longer than what was provided.
Cutting - The Scissor tool can cut an audio clip in the beginning middle or end. This can be done to eliminate parts of the clip. It is easiest to do if you zoom in on the file to better see the sound waves. There is a small slider on the bottom right below the library that can do this.
Stretching - Changes the Tempo and Length without changing Pitch.
Pitching - Changes Length, Pitch and Tempo
